Lessons I Learned From The Alchemist- Paulo Coelho

Lesson2:Disappointments

Read: The Alchemist Book Review Part 1

"The boy was disappointed; he decided that he would never again believe in dreams.
He remembered that he had a number of things he had to take care of."

Once we've figured out what is it that we want to do and after we realise that there are no easy answers we become disappointed as the boy was disappointed that the woman could only interpret the dream but not tell him how to get to the Pyramids in Egypt. The urge to give up set in and we start thinking that maybe we are just dreaming too much and we feel stupid of ever believing in our dreams.
I have personally experienced this feeling of thinking and imagining the outcome as I start to deliberate on the vision, one realises that there are lot of unanswered questions and there’s no silver platter and there’s that thought that says snap out of it and then one just goes back to the way things are and you remember all the responsibilities you have and mantain the status quo.

I've learned it is normal to go through these thoughts but what makes the difference between those who pursue their purpose and those who don't or give up along the way, is that those who do, they still go forward regardless of disappointments and feelings of giving up.

Today ask yourself how many things you have or had a strong desire to do, that you have abandoned because when you tried to start them, you faced roadblocks and felt the disappointments? Look at a way of taking small baby steps towards your dreams, the start will not look anything like the finished line, remind yourself It's not about perfection is about starting and continuing to believe in your dreams no matter what.
