Books My Constant Companion

I've always loved books, books have always been in my life as far as I remember, I'm not sure what started the hunger for reading but I've always been a vivid reader since I was a child, I remember the from Grade 1 I was the first to finish Umasambisane (a grade 1 story book) and I won the bible which I was a regular reader at the podium in the morning assembly I had forgotten about this illustration and few days I remembered: and it made my heart melt and was grinning from ear to ear. I somehow love the discovery and intimacy once you start opening the first page of the book, having to imagine the characters, make up their voices and all the scenery there's no other fun way to engage mind. I've always said that entering the library is like entering the gold mine because there's so much gold to be dug there and it's always a therapeutic experience as I get to see world, other than my own eyes and see it in someone else's eyes. I've cried, ma

When Breath Becomes Air- Review

I wept and wept, my heart couldn’t stop pounding as if my heart was coming out of my mouth, I didn’t anticipate that I would cry uncontrollably in a book store finishing the book I had started, this had happen once, reading a book and crying and I saw a couple I knew and they asked why was I crying? I didn’t have an answer and decided to buy the book and read in the comfort of my own space, save myself more embarrassment and I vowed I will never find myself in the same position again.  This book chose me, I had never heard of this book before or seen it anywhere, yet I found it in my own hands, as I took it, I saw on the bottom of the front cover a review by New York Times .  'Finishing this book and then forgetting about it is simply not an option...Unmissable' New York Times. As I started reading, I was drawn to this book, I kept turning the pages I was amazed as book written by a neurosurgeon, I didn’t expect it to be so full and rich in vocabulary and the write

The Alchemist Book Review by Paulo Coelho

It started with a question from a chat, what am I doing with my life? Which I said , I’m in the journey of finding my purpose, then a friend asked whether have I read The Alchemist? and I answered no. Well it was not the first time hearing about this book "The Alchemist" and about the author Paulo Coelho, when I go to the book store I hardly go to fiction books side as I read mostly non-fiction, though this best-seller has been on my to read for years and never read it, there’s a saying that says: "When a student is ready the teacher appears", I doubt I would have appreciated this book if I had read it years earlier because I wouldn’t have been able to comprehend the lessons packed in this book. I’ve read lots of books, articles and videos on the topic of purpose, this book is on the top of my list, it surpass even The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren, It is a well written and powerful storytelling book, with every sentence as a pun

Lesson2:Disappointments  Read:  The Alchemist Book Review Part 1 "The boy was disappointed; he decided that he would never again believe in dreams. He remembered that he had a number of things he had to take care of." Once we've figured out what is it that we want to do and after we realise that there are no easy answers we become disappointed as the boy was disappointed that the woman could only interpret the dream but not tell him how to get to the Pyramids in Egypt. The urge to give up set in and we start thinking that maybe we are just dreaming too much and we feel stupid of ever believing in our dreams. I have personally experienced this feeling of thinking and imagining the outcome as I start to deliberate on the vision, one realises that there are lot of unanswered questions and there’s no silver platter and there’s that thought that says snap out of it and then one just goes back to the way things are and you remember all the responsibil

Lesson3: Purpose "For several reasons. But let's say that the most important is that you have succeeded in discovering your destiny." The boy didn't know what a person's "destiny" was. "It's what you have always wanted to accomplish. E veryone, when they are young, knows what their destiny is. "At that point in their lives, everything is clear and everything is possible. They are not afraid to dream, and to yearn for everything they would like to see happen to them in their lives. But, as time passes, a mysterious force begins to convince them that it will be impossible for them to realize their destiny." None of what the old man was saying made much sense to the boy. But he wanted to know what the "mysterious force" was; the merchant's daughter would be impressed when he told her about that! "It's a force that appears to be negativ
